The category is flexible and will extend beyond the traditional Arts into areas such as entertainment and communications.

SCION – INNOVATION & TECHNOLOGY - ENTRY BY NOMINATION, WINNER SELECTED BY JUDGES

This category will focus on innovation and the use or development of technology to improve the quality and/or quantity of the business performance.

Their story will be about how innovation has improved the original business and/or allowed it to pivot into new products and services, not formerly entered.

The uptake or development of new technology and the impact it has had on their business.

The use of new ideas, systems, processes and products may feature in this category.

Businesses can be from any sector.

Sustainable products and processes may feature.

DELOITTE - MANAAKITANGA TOURISM, HOSPITALITY & RETAIL - ENTRY BY NOMINATION, WINNER SELECTED BY JUDGES

This category goes to the core of Rotorua’s original raison detre (or reason for existing). Rotorua has its beginnings as a place to visit and enjoy the Manaakitanga of the local people. That tradition still runs strongly in our Tourism, Hospitality and Retail businesses.

Their story will be about how they look after their customer’s needs in the tourism, hospitality and retail sectors.

It may include how they have adapted the business to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Customer service and care, going the extra mile, and how they employ the traditional Rotorua Manaakitanga principles to improve their customer’s experience and their overall business, will be important.

All retail businesses, and any in the Tourism and/or Hospitality sector may enter this category

Their story will be about the products, practices, policies of the entity as it contributes to the natural environment.

Clean air, clean water, energy conservation, carbon footprint management, and waste will feature strongly.

Leading business into the new age of sustainable practices, policies and products will be their theme.

NZME PEOPLE'S CHOICE - ENTRY BY NOMINATION AND WINNER DECIDED BY PUBLIC VOTE

This category will recognise a business that has achieved success based on those that matter most to them, their community, stakeholders, staff and customers. Unlike the other categories that have an independent group of judges, this award is in the hands of the public through online voting. You may nominate your favourite business or organisation for this category.

The Chamber and Sponsor reserve the right to audit nominations to ensure all entrants are a genuine business of good repute.  This requirement is compulsory for this category.

Public voting for the NZME People's Choice category will be open from 12 July - 9 August.

This category will recognise the daily use of bilingual practices in everyday business, showcasing the importance and value of Rotorua's bilingual city status.

Their story will be about how the use of bilingualism adds multiple values into the business and its employees, clients, and partners

It will likely extend beyond the te reo into how their business enriches and shares the unique shared bicultural history of Rotorua.

It might also discuss the Treaty of Waitangi partnerships, local history and unique aspects of Rotorua and the entity’s place in it.

They will show how their organisation demonstrates its commitment to the physical and mental health and safety of people at their place of work.

MINISTRY OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT - NOT FOR PROFIT & SOCIAL ENTERPRISE - ENTRY BY NOMINATION, WINNER SELECTED BY JUDGES

In this category, the judges will be open to receiving entries from any not for profit organisations who operate in the region. It caters for organisations whose main purpose is to provide public good type of benefits rather than making a commercial profit.

Their story will be about the services supplied to their prime targeted audience.

They will describe these services, why their organisation does this work. (motivation)

They will also describe how they are delivered and they benefit the audience.

They will also acknowledge the backers and participants of your organisation and why they see value in providing/contributing to this activity.

This category is open to any organisation whose primary purpose is to provide public good type of benefits, rather than that of making a commercial profit.

This category will recognise an outstanding organisation (or person) with a strong and proud history of contribution to the good of Rotorua.

 

Rotorua businesses may nominate organisations (or persons) to the Chamber for consideration for the Award.

 

These names, together with credentials of the nominees, will then be added to a list of outstanding contributors to the Rotorua area. 

 

The winner will then be selected from this list, by the sponsor.
